Different Color Packing

Assign a different color packing tape to each room so the boxes are easier to identify – Throughout this last move, I really focused on being more organized – the colored duct tape can be a great timesaver during the unloading process as you can quickly identify into which room each box should be placed.

Choose A Mover

Make an early, informed decision and then lean on them, so they can help you throughout the process.

Create an inventory

Now is the time to take stock of your belongings. We’ll help you create a detailed list that can be used to help value your belongings for insurance coverage and keep your packing organized.

Order boxes

Be sure to have enough boxes and supplies for your big day! Our relocation specialists can suggest the appropriate style and number of boxes, and can have them delivered right to your home. Or order your supplies at our NYC Moving Supplies Store. Give yourself plenty of time to pack with the proper materials – and remember that [company name] is happy to pack and unpack for you.

Stay calm on moving day

Keep important items with you – place essentials in a designated suitcase or bag. Make sure that your Move Book and your jewelry, prescriptions, phones, chargers, etc. are accessible.

Have plenty of supplies

You’ll need LOTS of boxes – probably more boxes than you think, and having enough boxes will make your life easier! (If you buy your boxes from a a NYC moving company, you can always return unused boxes for a refund. If you got them free from the grocery, just toss any leftovers.) Have about 10 boxes set aside to use for last minute items on moving day, such as bedding, clothing, and cleaning supplies.

Keep things together

Insist on keeping things together when you or the movers are packing boxes. Keep bookends with books, light bulbs with lamps, and extension cords with appliances. Small, loose parts can be attached to the item they belong to with tape or placed in small envelopes — to keep picture hooks with pictures, shelf brackets with a bookcase, a special wrench and bolts with the wall unit.

Keep important papers with you

Your list of “important” papers might include: birth certificates, school records, mover estimates, new job contacts, utility company numbers, recent bank records, current bills, phone lists, closing papers, realtor info, maps, and more.
