Tipping Piano Movers: Is It a Good Idea?

When you are moving a piano between two homes, it’s best not to try to do it yourself. You might want to save money by moving the piano yourself, but the truth is that pianos are incredibly fragile in addition to being heavy and awkward to move. If you fail to do so, you may have to pay a significant amount for repairs. Professionals, however, are experts in taking care of musical instruments so that they arrive in perfect condition. In light of this task’s difficulty, it’s a nice gesture to tip the crew members.

Piano Mover Tipping

You might be wondering, “should I tip piano movers?” It turns out that piano moving can be a difficult job. When you move your piano for the first time, it’s hard to know what type of piano moving service to hire. You want someone who will do an excellent job and not damage your piano in any way. And then there are the people who say tipping is expected. But how much should you tip? In this blog post, we’re going to answer all of those questions and more!

Piano movers are a professional service that can be hard to find. Piano moving is not something many people have experience with, so it’s hard to know what type of piano movers you want. Most piano movers will charge an hourly fee for their time and labor – no matter how far the piano has to travel. Though I understand that customer experiences can vary dramatically, tipping is quite common and appreciated. However, since piano movers’ quality can vary widely, it is hard to say whether tipping them is a conventional and expected practice.

When you’re looking to hire piano movers, it’s best to do a bit of research. What are their reviews like? How long have they been in business? Are there any testimonials from other people who have used them before? No piano moving service is perfect; each one has its strengths and weaknesses. Many years ago, I trained a few of our piano movers on how to handle challenging moves. After being taught how to appropriately handle both the client’s property and the client themselves, the movers noticed how often they received tips. The employees now receive frequent compliments and tips.

If the movers take pride in their work, care of your instrument and your property, and leave you with a good experience, then a tip makes sense. While we did have some particularly generous tippers over the years, I always felt a tip was good if it was enough to buy each mover needed, a decent lunch.

So, How Much Should You Tip Piano Movers?

The tipping decision is entirely up to you. Most piano-moving websites state that customers aren’t expected to tip and should only do so if they are pleased with the work that has been done. It is still a good idea to tip your piano movers if you wish, and the general rule of thumb is to give $20 to $40 per mover. And as always, making sure your tip amount fits your budget is a sign of good etiquette.

Gratitude in Other Forms

The amount you tip or the manner in which you tip is up to you. If you choose not to tip, there are still other ways to be a good customer. The ideal way to organize your home before your piano movers come in is to ensure there’s a direct path that runs between the piano and the door. Additionally, it’s polite to offer the crew some refreshments, especially if it’s hot out. Nothing crazy. In such a labor-intensive job, the crew will even appreciate having a couple of bottles of cold water handy!
